INTRODUCTION:
On this interesting journey that lasts 8 days we have chosen one of the most beautiful places in our contry. We are starting from Zagreb, the capital – city with a milion hears, towards peninsula Istria know for its wine, olive oil and trufles, as well as a rich historical – cultural heritage and feel the romance of past times on an excursion through the towns that overwhelm you with their beauty. After that, the route takes you to the National Park – PLITVICE, the oldest and the most famous one in our country. You will continue to Zadar, the city with interesting history and cultural heritage dating 3000 years. Afterwords, the route takes you to Skradin, small Mediterranean town with narrow streets from which we go National Park – KRKA – natural and karst phenomenom. The national park Krka is a vast and primarily unaltered area of exceptional natural value. We are coming to Split, on of the pearls of the Adriatic sea. 1700years old dating to the time the Roman Emperor Diocletian decided to build his Palace which during these 1700 years the Palace slowly turned into a city, which to this day lures with its rich tradition, glorious history and beauty of its natural and cultural heritage.
While slowly approaching to another pearls of our country – Dubrovnik, you will visit fascinating Neretva river valley where you will enjoy an unforgettable safari and visit Ston with salt ponds and the longest stone wall in Europe. You’ll walk through Dubrovnik, the city of unique and worl famous cultural heritage which is why it is added to the UNESCO list of World heritage sites, and Cavtat – romantic town with beautiful nature, rural architecture, various historical monuments.
Itinerary
Day 1 – Zagreb
Welcome to Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, an old city with a young soul. Your tour leader will meet you at the Zagreb Airport and together with your driver will transfer you to your hotel. After you checked in, we will take you for a pleasant walk in the city centre where you will get the first impressions of Zagreb. We are also going to have a welcome dinner with specialties of the local cuisine in one of Zagreb taverns. Free time to explore this great city. As you set out to take a tour round Zagreb, determined to see its highlights, you’ll find that you’ll end up rather enjoying it. The streets and monuments of Zagreb proudly testify to its thousands of years of history. But their greatest value is not measured by history alone, but by the special moments there historic attractions give us as we stand back to enjoy their beauty. Overnight in Zagreb.
Day 2 – Zagreb – Pula – Opatija
Breakfast. We are taking you to discover Zagreb, cultural, comercial and political centre. With numerous museums, galleries, theatres, churches, cafes, open markets, clubs and pubs, Zagreb is today a city pulsing with life, it’s old town is a true feast for your senses, where you can explore some of ideal places in this vivid city. Departure to Istria that will amaze you with spectacular natural scenery in constant transformation over the course of the year. While moving inland gives way to the kind of green and fertile hues associated with the landscapes of Provence and Tuscany. We will visit Pula and its famous Arena – symbol of the city, the sixt largest one in the world, twin gates, the temple of Augustus, the excellent preserved Roman Forum, the City Palace…We are ready to visit the most famous and attractive Istrian medieval town of Motovun-Montona. Lunch in Motovun. This captivating hilltop town is one of the characteristic symbols of the Istrian interior. After lunch in Motovun we are heading to Opatija, an “old lady” who is waiting at the door of the Adriatic. Accommodation in hotel in Opatija Dinner. Overnight.
Day 3 – Opatija – National park Plitvice
Breakfast. Panoramic view of Opatija. This elegant tourist destination, lies at the centre of the Riviera with the longest tradition of tourism in Croatia. We continue to NP Plitvice. The wealth and splendor of the water the sounds of the waterfalls, the power of nature that exudes awe, it’s probably the first thing you feel when you first encounter the Plitvice Lakes.It’s formed by a group of 16 terraced lakes connected by waterfalls, and a kilometer long network of wooden bridges and forest trails which allow visitors to eyperience the waterfalls and lakes from up close. Suggestion for a lunch in famous restaurant Lička kuća. After visiting park, we continue the journey to Zadar. Accommodation at the hotel. Dinner. Overnight.
Day 4 – Zadar – National park Krka – Split
Breakfast. Guided tour through the history of Zadar – People’s sqare, Five wells square, Roman forum, Foch, Kalelarga, Sea Organ, Sun salutation…We continue towards Skradin, a romantic little town emerged on the very spot where the Krka river enters the sea. Skradin is a charming town with narrow cobled streets, passageways, stairs and volts. Tour of the NP Krka begins on a wooden walking trail with a guide and continues until you reach the most magnificent waterfall-the Skradin Buk. You will continue sightseeing mills, blacksmith shops and museums where you will be introduced to the rich tradition of this region. We continue to Split. Accommodation in the hotel. Dinner. Overnight.
Day 5 – Split
Breakfast. Walking tour of Split. You will see UNESCO protected 1700 years old Diocletian’s palace imagining how the life of Diocletian was like, within the walls of the palace. During the tour we stop by to see the Cathedral of St Duje, one of the most beautiful cultural wonders on the Adriatic coast but also the ancient cellars, square Peristil in center of the palace, Roman temples, the famous Golden Gate and the big statue from Grgur Ninski…A walk through the ancient city takes you through time, along the great examples of ancient architecture like Peristyle, the middle aged Romanesque Church and Gothic Palace, Renaissance portals of the noblemen’s houses, Baroque facades and modern architecture superbly merged in the rich heritage. On this walking tour you will get to know the Split town and his history in the interesting way. Accommodation in the hotel. Free afternoon for exploring the city. Dinner. Overnight.
Day 6 – Ston -Dubrovnik
Breakfast. We continue to travel to Dubrovnik, with a stop in the Neretva river valley where you will discover the river during a photo safari. Ride through narrow canals and a backwater of Neretva vessel is a unique experience that gives you a sence of peace. After that, we continue to visit Ston, a medieval town whose history dates back to 14th century. It is a small town with the longest stone wall in Europe – 5,5 km. Its former value as a „salt city“ gets confirmed even today in the plants of the oldest active salt-works in the world.These saltworks have remained faithfull to the tradition and to the natural way of salt production which has not changed since remote ages. Tasting oysters by choice and continuing our journey to Dubrovnik. Accommodation in hotel. Dinner. Overnight.
Day 7 – Cavtat – Dubrovnik
After breakfast visiting Cavtat with a professional guide. The romantic town with beautiful nature, rural architecture, various historical monuments is located in the southernmost region of the Croatian coast.. Preserved monuments from Roman times are located in Cavtat, among other, the remains of the theater, as well as the remains of the city walls, aqueducts, monumental core – nymphea and one of the larger town villas. You return to Dubrovnik to go to the city tour with a professional guide, where you will see the Stradun, franciscan monastery, Onofrio’s fountain, Orlando’s column, St Vlaho Cathedral… Through the centuries Dubrovnik was not only the city but also a country – representative of culture metropolis, a place where romance becomes a reality. You should discover the enchanting beauty of the stone, which is simply breathtaking. The city is unique and has a world famous cultural heritage which is why it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. Dinner. Overnight.
Day 8 – Dubrovnik
Breakfast. Today is the last day of our tour. After breakfast, your tour leader and driver will drive you to Dubrovnik Airport where you are expecting your flight back home. We wish you a safe journey and we hope that you will always gladly remember Croatia and have great memories of these eight days spent with us.
